After the school tour we took part in 4 exchange activities lead by
Grade 5 at Amaji-our pen pals.
There was a Japanese calligraphy lesson. First we were shown a demonstration of how to write the Kanji and then we had a go ourselves.
Riley's penmanship was spot on! The kanji means 'friendly'.
The sheet everyone copied from had been beautifully prepared
by Kazane who is Amy Dodd's pen pal!
The most exciting activity was being shown how to dress in traditional Japanese costumes. Annabel and Megan looked stunning in their cherry blossom kimonos.
Thomas was dashing in his Yukata.
Shannon wore the most beautiful obi sash.
All of the boys really enjoyed being fussed over by the girls!
Morgan even kept undoing his sash on purpose so the girls would
have to rewind him!!
The next activity was a lesson in making onigiri or rice balls. These were wrapped in seaweed and eaten with miso soup. Delicious!
The final activity was origami. I wonder who these love hearts are for!
But the best bit of all was being told that these traditional Japanese costumes were a gift from Amaji to each one of us! We were so excited.
THANK YOU SO MUCH MATSUMOTO SENSEI!
