After eating we took the JR over ground train line to Harajuku. There we visited the famous Meiju Jingu- a huge shrine and temple in the centre of a forest in the middle of Tokyo!! We washed our hands in the traditional way before entering.

The temple grounds are enormous-set in a huge square.

We all paid our respects at the temple by giving an offering of money, bowing twice, clapping twice and bowing again.

After the temple came SHOPPING!! In Harajuku we walked down Takashita Street with lots of unusual Tokyo shops including a 100 yen store-the cases will be bulging!!

We also visited the Japanese Bazaar where the teachers bought most of their gifts-we just sat on the steps outside and 'people watched'!!

Next came 'Kiddiland'! 6 floors of toys and mechanical gizzmos!! A paradise for children and adults! However Morgan and Nathan just wanted a cuddly teddy-no room in the cases !

Finally we headed for Shibuya where the lights are ultra bright and the crossing is both scary and hilarious all at once-thousands of people all crossing the road together but going in different directions!
Then we rounded off the day in a Japanese karaoke bar. Everyone sang their hearts out and 2 hours just whizzed by. Mrs Wigg-I'm sorry but Mr Coates beats you hands down for out of tune crooning that makes everyone cover their ears!!

  3. Fantastic! I loved visiting the temple, it's so beautiful. The weather looks great too. I thought you would be knee deep in snow! It look as though you've had another great day - shopping at the 100 yen store...what bargains did you pick up? Do you think Mr Coates has been practising his singing before the visit? You'll all have to give us a song in assembly when you get back; I'll hook up my karaoke machine!
Looks like you'll all sleep well tonight after another very busy day. Take care xx

  6. I LOVE the karaoke bar! I'm so jealous! Again you all look like you're having too much fun!
Hymn practice with Mr Coates should definitely be pencilled in for next half term!
I can't believe that Mrs Fellowes-Prynne thinks my singing is so bad!! After all these years, singing alongside her during hymn practice and Christmas plays as she peers over the piano to make sure you're all singing!!!
I put my heart and soul into those Elvis tracks each time we have visited the karaoke bar and all she could think about was covering her ears!

  7. Konnichiwa!! Well, I've just left school and it was nice to see everyone hard at work! I told all the children and staff that I would post a little comment on here from them as they had been eager to hear what you had been up ! The whole school is so proud of you all and can't wait to see you when you get back! Year 5 and 6 are missing their pals but have found the blog page hilarious and Year 3 want you to teach them how to clean and iron!! We know you will have lots to share and are excited for your return! With love from all your friends at Chopwell Primary x
